If the student is going to be doing a lot of video editing, for instance, then you would need to pay more attention to RAM, CPU speed, hard drive size, and speed of the display adapter. It has a 1.6Ghz processor, 512MB RAM, 40GB hard drive, CD Burner with DVD ROM, Wireless card, 14.1 inch display, and Windows XP Home. This will be great for a student as a best buy notebook or laptop.

Of course, you will also need the word processor, email, spreadsheet software. If you don't want to pay for Microsoft Office, OpenOffice is free and works great! It can do almost everything MS Office can and more. For email, use Mozilla's Thunderbird.
